Historically the statewide duck season has started the weekend after Thanksgiving and always ends the last Sunday in January. Has anybody seen where Thanksgiving falls this year? I think we are going to get screwed out of a couple days this season. Rumors are circulating that the opener could be the day of Thanksgiving. If that's the case, anybody ever fried a turkey in the blind before?

Just curious where excatly are the rumors circulating? Southern Missouri and Illinois typically open on Thanksgiving day and Arkansas is open on Thanksgiving day so I have spent plenty of time in the field on Turkey Day.

x2. IMO it will either open same day as deer gun season, or we will not get a split.

I hope we get the split. Wish we had 2 or 3 splits during our season. I think it would really help...

Didn't we have a season a few years ago where we only got 58? I think we will get 60. They will either open on Thanksgiving and run ist straight, or open the weekend before then close and reopen the following Saturday like always.

It was 59... The commission voted to not open it on thanksgiving because ( get this) "it would not be fair for someone from middle Tennessee
To have to drive to west Tennessee to hunt that morning then have to dive back for thanksgiving dinner that same day". It's the truth. Atleast that's what the head of the commission told me personally.

Didn't it open on Thanksgiving in the (I think) 2001/2002 season? Maybe it was just the day my family did Thanksgiving, because I know my mom put off our dinner to like 7 o'clock to accommodate me not being there early...

I have shot a lot of pre-turkey ducks in rice fields. I do remember when season closed on Christmas several years ago.

I may be wrong, but I think the framework is such that if there is no split, the days get reduced. I would vote for weekend before Thanksgiving, closed thanksgiving weekend, then reopen first Saturday is December as usual. Not really worreid one way or the other. Don't kill many ducks early anyhow.
