I'm running a 40hp Yamaha tiller. It has hyd tilt and trim and won't kick up when I hit something. I've been looking to get a break away plate, looking at the cmc ba130. It says it'll kick the motor up at 5mph. Will it still kick when I'm running at speed? I'm afraid I'm gonna rip my lower unit off running at reelfoot even in the makes trails still hit a few stumps lol. I need someone to point me in the right direction. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks!

The CMC will help at the low speeds but it needs time to ride over the log or stump and will only kick up so far. Vance manufacturing makes a cheaper non spring loaded model. A good hydo jack plate can raise your motor up vertically. Just going slow will save ya some coin

I have the CMC BA130 on my boat. It will still kick up at cruising speed even with the spring it will kick up high enough to pop the prop out of the water. However I have hit some at speed and had the tiller handle ripped out of my hand so be careful.

The ba 130 will kick up high enough to send your tiller handle through your back seats. Need to chain it or use limiting straps to keep the motor from coming in your lap and cruising speeds and getting someone seriously hurt.
